King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Preview
The flat racing summer continues this weekend with another massive race as we all head to Ascot for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Betting and it is shaping up to be a thriller. The Group 1 contest is run over a trip of 1m4f and is known as the middle distance championship for the mid season as the younger horses get their first crack at their elders.
King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting
As the time of writing we have eight runners remaining in the field with the betting looking tight as you would expect.
Cracksman (11/4) is the one to beat if he turns up in his best form but he will only run if the rain arrives so at this stage, it is best to steer clear of the John Gosden trained horse. Rab Havlin will be on the horse in place of Frankie Dettori if Cracksman does take to the start line but given the doubt surrounding his participation, punters are advised to keep their powder dry.
No trainer has won the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes more than Sir Michael Stoute and the famous trainer has a cracking chance to add to that tally this weekend.
Stoute runs Poet's Word in the race and has every chance of going very close given his recent form. The 5-year-old is a classic Stoute improver and he showed that last time out when winning the Prince Of Wales's Stakes in excellent fashion last time out making him the right favourite on Saturday.
The same trainer also has Crystal Ocean (9/4) in the field off the back of three wins so far in 2018. The Sea The Stars colt was also a Royal Ascot winner having picked up the Hardwicke last time out and looks open to more improvement.
Coronet (12/1) and Hydrangea (12/1) have a chance on their best form but perhaps need a touch more to compete with the big boys in the field, whilst Rostropovich has only shown glimpses of talent this term and represents the three-year-old horses.
Poet's Can Write His Name into History
Recent form is all important here and it is Poet's Word who is the safe bet in that regard. His Prince Of Wales's win is fresh in the mind and there is every chance Stoute can eek some further improvement in a terrific horse.
Course and distance will be no problem and as such, Poet's Word is the bet at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.
