Nunthorpe Stakes Betting Preview And Tips

Battaash and Blue Point are set for another epic duel on Friday, and the pair are at the top of the latest Nunthorpe Stakes Odds, and it's the former that will be sent off the red-hot favourite for the York Group 1 sprint, but the latter beat him in the King's Stand Stakes, so will be eager to try and replicate that fine victory on day three of the Ebor Festival.

Nunthorpe Stakes Odds

Having lost to Blue Point in the King's Stand, Battaash returned to winning ways in fine style last time out as he soared to a four-length win in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, and if he can turn up in similar form to that romp then 4/6 with William Hill is the correct price for victory.

Blue Point was unable to follow up his King's Stand win over six furlongs next time up, as he was down the field in the July Cup, but the 9/2 shot with Betfred will enjoy a drop back to five furlongs, and if he can keep close to Battaash through the early stages then he could well look to get past him in the closing stages, but if both perform at their best then it's hard to seeing the speedball Battaash being beaten in a fascinating Nunthorpe Stakes.

It would be no surprise to see this pair dominate the race, but there's a whole host of classy speedsters taking their chance here and Mabs Cross (16/1) and Judicial (20/1) fought out the finish in the Palace House Stakes earlier in the season, and while the former was victorious that day, it's the latter than turn that form around and bag a top-six finish here.

Aidan O'Brien will launch a three-pronged attack in the Friday showpiece, but Sioux Nation (25/1), Washington Dc (25/1) and Battle Of Jericho (66/1) all appear to have their work cut out, as they have often found life in Group 1 sprints tough, so will not figure here.

Nunthorpe Stakes Tips

This could quite easily turn into a two-horse race with Battaash likely to get the win over Blue Point, but with the pair dominating the betting then there should be some eye-catching each-way value and Richard Fahey's Mr Lupton makes the most appeal at 22/1 with Betfred bookmakers.

A Listed winner at York earlier in the season, he was fourth to Battaash at Goodwood last time out, and he's one that will be finishing strong off a quick pace, so he can storm past beaten horses in the closing stages, and is a superb each-way bet.
