Qemah tipped to land Sun Chariot Stakes win at Newmarket
Saturday 7th October, 2017 - 2:40pm Newmarket - Sun Chariot Stakes
Fresh from Arc glory with Enable, John Gosden and Frankie Dettori team up again at Newmarket on Saturday, and they bid for more Group 1 glory with Persuasive in a mouth-watering renewal of the Sun Chariot Stakes, but there will be a whole host of lively challengers in what should be a superb showpiece event at Flat racing HQ at the weekend.
- Five of the last six winners have been priced 7/2 or lower
- Four three-year-olds have won race in last ten years
- French-trained runners have won five of the last ten renewals

Progressive through the handicap sphere last year, Persuasive has failed to get her head in front this campaign, and she was beaten by Aidan O'Brien's Roly Poly in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild in July, and that pair are set to lock horns again in this contest, which was won 12 months ago by the O'Brien-trained Alice Springs.
Persuasive followed that Deauville defeat up with a third placed finish in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown, so will be hoping to return to winning ways here, but she looks awfully short at a best-priced 3/1 with Coral Bookmakers, and it's the aforementioned Roly Poly that makes more appeal of the front duo in the betting.
Roly Poly has Group One-winning form at Newmarket, as the three-year-old stormed to victory in the Falmouth Stakes earlier in the campaign, so at 9/2 with Betfred has to be a major player here, but she did finish behind Persuasive in the Matron Stakes last time out, and so the Ballydoyle raider will need to bounce back to form to play a primary role here.
Marco Botti's Aljazzi beat Nathra (20/1) in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park last time out, and while she will need to buld on that Group 3 success she is a filly on the upgrade, and could star here at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, but it's French raider Qemah that makes the most appeal, and she can strike to glory here.
She beat Aljazzi in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, and while Jean-Claude Rouget's charge was down the field in the Matron Stakes in Ireland, she will relish the quicker ground on Saturday, and at 7/1 with William Hill could easily outclass her rivals in a race that the French-trained horses have blossomed in in recent times.
Each Way Players
Usherette is another European challenge, and Andre Fabre's five-year-old was a Listed winner on home soil last time out, but she has struggled on recent trips to British shores, and at 8/1 with Betfair Sportsbook could be one that finds this a little tough, and will be challenging for a place at best.
Muffri'ha was a fine winner of a Listed event at Newmarket last weekend, but William Haggas' runner will need a lot more to figure here, so at 16/1 with William Hill is another that will be fighting it out for a placed finish, rather than the victory, with Roger Varian's Spangled (33/1) another challenger that will find this level too hot to handle.
Worth A Mention
Alluringly is the 66/1 outsider with bet365, but trained by the O'Brien operation she has to be given a mention, but having struggled in Pattern company of late she could be used as a pacemaker for Roly Poly, while Arabian Hope (33/1) is another classy runner, but may find this level beyond her in a race that can go the way of Rouget's French runner.
