Gustav Klimt to hand Aidan O'Brien more 2000 Guineas success at Newmarket
Saturday 5th May, 2018 - 3:35pm Newmarket - QIPCO 2000 Guineas
Flat fans are licking their lips at the prospect of the top class action on the level over the coming months, and the action clicks up a few notches on Saturday afternoon as the first Classic of the season takes place at Newmarket, as a quality field of colts line up in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, which is the highlight of the day at 3:35pm.

|Gustav Klimt to win Best Bet||5/2|
Aidan O'Brien has a sensational record in this race having lifted the crown seven times since the turn of the century, and the master of Ballydoyle will unleash a trio of contenders in this year's event with Gustav Klimt (5/2 with Betfair) and Saxon Warrior (5/1 with Coral) two prominent figures in the betting for this fascinating contest.
Gustav Klimt was a very smart two-year-old and his win in the Superlative Stakes was a tremendous performance having found trouble in runner, while he has kicked off the season with a win at Leopardstown, but has a lot more to come on the track, and he could well be a real tough nut to crack, and if he continues his progression he has all the makings of a Guineas winner, and has to be the one to side with.
Saxon Warrior ended last season beating Roaring Lion (16/1 with William Hill) in the Racing Post Trophy, but has yet to have a prep this season, and he could turn into more of a Derby contender later in the season, and it could prove that Elarqam and Masar are more of a danger to Gustav Klimt here.
Mark Johnston's Elarqam is made to be a Guineas winner being a Frankel colt out of Attraction, and the son will aim to be a Classic winner like his parents, and at 5/1 with Betfair the Somerville Stakes winner is a player, as is Masar, who bound to victory in the Craven Stakes last time out, and at 11/2 with Betfair has to be a contender.
Sir Michael Stoute last won the 2000 Guineas in 2001 with Golan, but he will aim to break that long run on Saturday with Expert Eye, who is 9/1 with Betfair, and was lauded as the next star off the Freemason Lodge production line, but having flopped in the Dewhurst Stakes he was then beaten in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury by James Garfield, and that pair lock horns here.
James Garfield is 25/1 with William Hill here, and will fancy his chances of franking that form, but Expert Eye should come on for that Greenham run, and has to be a player here, while the abovementioned Roaring Lion is classy on his day, and has to be given a second look.
Of the others, Headway and Raid (botth 33/1) are eye-catching runners, but it could be a race dominated by the fancied contenders, and it's Gustav Klimt that can hand the Ballydoyle operation another Guineas success, and could prove to be a cut above his rivals.
