Henrik Stenson Is A Top Tip For The Houston Open As The US Masters Looms Large

The Houston Open offers a final chance for players to find form before next week's 2018 US Masters at Augusta and some stellar names are set to tee up at the Golf Club of Houston (formerly known as Redstone Golf Club)...

Daniel Berger (each way) - T18 28/1
Russell Henley (each way) - T8 33/1

The Head Of The Betting

There is a battle for favouritism for this week's PGA Tour event and we'll start with Justin Rose as he treads the same path that led to a runner-up finish at Augusta twelve months ago. The Englishman tied 15th at the Houston Open before going oh so close at the Masters and he arrives at this year's edition in sensational form, picking up three wins and ten top-ten finishes from his past 15 starts.

Rose can be backed at 11/1 but we will be keeping our powder dry for a bet on home to peak for the first major next week. Rickie Fowler, who has finished in the top-ten in three of the past four editions of the Houston Open, can also be backed at 11/1, although he has missed two cuts in his past five starts worldwide.

Jordan Spieth (12/1) has struggled to hit the heights this year but he is playing some very decent golf and it would be dangerous to write the 2015 runner-up off at Houston, albeit he has missed two cuts in five visits to this venue,

The ultra-consistent Phil Mickelson has racked up six top-seventeen finishes and a victory, in 2011, in the past nine years at this course and he can be backed at 14/1.

We prefer to side with Henrik Stenson at 14/1 though as the Swede has been runner-up at the Houston Open on two occasions, while he also has a tie for 3rd to his name. Stenson has been quietly going about his business since the last US Masters, picking up one win and twelve top-20 finishes in 20 outings, including a 4th place effort at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last time out, and he can hit form ahead of the first major of the year.
Tip #1: Henrik Stenson (each way) @ 14/1 with Betfred - 1/5 odds on 6 places.

The Best Of The Rest

Russell Henley can call on happy memories of playing the Houston Open as respective finishes of 7th, 4th and 5th were followed by a victory in 2017 that earned him a place at the US Masters, where he picked up a tie for 11th. The Golf Club of Houston will play in a similar way to Augusta again this week and a player who has picked up three top-25s this year is well worth an each-way punt again.
Tip #2: Russell Henley (each way) @ 33/1 with Unibet - 1/5 odds on 6 places.

Finally, Daniel Berger has finished in the top-15 in five of his past seven stroke-play starts and he has a very decent record at the Houston Open, finishing tied 25th on debut in 2015 before securing back-to-back top-five finishes.
Tip #3: Daniel Berger (each way) @ 28/1 with Betfred.com - 1/5 odds on 6 places.
