Brooks Koepka claimed his second major title of the year with victory at the US PGA Championship and he duly qualified for the USA team in first place. Koepka will be joined on the plane to France by Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson.
Those eight players have all qualified automatically for the American team and seven of them are major winners. USA captain Jim Furyk has four wildcards to dish out before his final team is confirmed on 9th September.
At this stage, the USA are even-money to win the Ryder Cup on European soil for the first time since 1993 and they do head to Paris as defending champions.
They beat the Europeans at Hazeltine in 2016 to record only their second victory in the past eight meetings between the teams and they are looking to enhance a woeful away record.
The Europeans were a bit of a mess when they went to Hazeltine two years ago but they are likely to be able to call upon a strong team of their own this time as Francesco Molinari, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Alex Noren and Paul Casey are vying for automatic qualifying spots before the final qualification event - the Made In Denmark - concludes on 2nd September.
The likes of Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood are also hoping for captain's picks from Thomas Bjorn ahead of what promises to be a hugely competitive event. Europe are currently a best price 6/5 to win the Ryder Cup with William Hill.
