The Big Six
The iconic Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass will again provide a stiff all-round test and there is very little to choose between the top-six in the betting. Jason Day arrives off the back of his win at the Wells Fargo on Sunday and he won the Players title in 2016, with Unibet pricing him 16/1.
Unibet also go 16/1 about FedEx Cup leader Justin Thomas, who tied 3rd in this event in 2016, and Jordan Spieth, who has missed the last three cuts at Sawgrass.
Rory McIlroy (16/1 with Ladbrokes) has a best of tied 6th (2014) to show from his appearances at The Players and Dustin Johnson (18/1) has yet to finish better than 12th. The 2015 winner, Rickie Fowler, has a mixed record at Sawgrass as he also tied 2nd in 2012 but has generally struggled in his other appearances.
It is Henrik Stenson who appears to be the pick of the prices at 28/1 (Betfred) as he won the title in 2009 and he has seven other top-25 finishes to show from 12 visits. The 2016 Open champion ranks 3rd in the all-time earnings at Sawgrass and he has been in good touch in 2018, racking up five top-eight finishes in seven starts so far.
Tip #1: Henrik Stenson (each way) @ 28/1 with Betfred - 1/5 odds on 7 places.
It is a sign of how well Francesco Molinari has been playing of late that he is now ranked 30th in the world and he has enjoyed playing the Stadium Course in recent years. The Italian has gone 6-7-6 in his past three visits (scoring average of 70.08) and he should be full of confidence following top-20 efforts at The Masters and the Wells Fargo.
Tip #2: Francesco Molinari (each way) @ 50/1 with Betfred - 1/5 odds on 7 places.
Finally, Zach Johnson is likely to be a popular each-way bet this week as he has made 12 cuts in 13 appearances at Sawgrass, securing six top-20s, including a runner-up effort in 2012. The two-major winner is putting really well at the moment and he arrives off the back of a 5th place effort in Texas last time out.
Tip #3: Zach Johnson each way) @ 60/1 with Boylesports - 1/5 odds on 7 places.
