Justin Rose Is A Top Bet For The Valspar Championship
The PGA Tour moves on to the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Florida for the Valspar Championship on Thursday and we've picked out four players we expect to thrive in the forecast windy, wet and possibly thundery conditions...
|Thursday - 12.00pm||Odds||Bets|
|Justin Rose (each way) - T5 Best Bet||20/1|
|Tony Finau (each way)||28/1|
|Ryan Moore (each way)||45/1|
|Kevin Streelman (each way)||60/1|
The Market Leaders
Jordan Spieth, the 2015 champion, heads here as a 9/1 favourite after racking up five top-20 finishes this year, while Rory McIlroy (14/1) makes his course debut and should be refreshed after missing last week's trip to Mexico.
Sergio Garcia (16/1) picked up a top-ten in Mexico and makes his first appearance at Copperhead since his tie for 7th in 2013, while Henrik Stenson has strong course form on the redesigned track after going 4-11-7 since his debut here and the Swede is priced 20/1 in what will be his first start since a disappointing effort in Malaysia five weeks ago.
Justin Rose is our best bet at the prices though as he has racked up eight top-30 finishes in nine appearances at Innisbrook, including a tie for 5th, and this will be his first visit since the course redesign.
The Englishman didn't enjoy playing in Mexico last week but he closed with a morale-boosting round of 67 to tie for 37th on Sunday and his recent form has been sensational - three wins and eight other top-tens in his past thirteen starts. Rose is a great bet, assuming he enjoys the changed Copperhead layout.
Tip #1: Justin Rose (each way) @ 20/1 with Betfred - 1/5 odds on 6 places.
The Best Of The Rest
The defending champion, Adam Hadwin (35/1), has picked up three top-tens in his last five starts ahead of his title defence, albeit it is always a big ask to go back-to-back at a tournament.
Instead, we will back Tony Finau at 28/1 after he signed off the Sunday of last year's event with a round of 64 to claim a top-five finish. The American has had plenty of near-misses of late, finishing in the top-six at the Farmers Insurance Open and tied 2nd at the Genesis Open, and he should relish a return to Innisbrook.
Tip #2: Tony Finau (each way) @ 28/1 with Coral - 1/5 odds on 7 places.
Ryan Moore is another who enjoys this venue as he has racked up five top-20 efforts in eleven appearances, including a couple of top-fives in the past three visits. Moore tied 9th at Riviera recently and can be backed at 45/1.
Tip #3: Ryan Moore (each way) @ 45/1 with Betfred.com.
Finally, 2013 Valspar winner, Kevin Streelman, is on a run of eleven successive cuts made, including a tie for 6th at Pebble Beach, and he should enjoy a return to a venue where he has many happy memories.
Tip #4: Kevin Streelman (each way) @ 60/1 with Betfred.
