The Latest Odds
Rotherham are looking to make an instant return to the Championship after suffering relegation 13 months ago and they head into this match as a 13/10 bet for victory. Paul Warne's men disposed of Scunthorpe 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals and they now face a tough task against Shrewsbury, who are through to the first play-off final in their history after beating Charlton 2-0 on aggregate.
The Shrews have enjoyed a remarkable season under Paul Hurst as they had been one of the favourites for relegation at the start of the campaign but they are now on the verge of returning to the second tier of the English Football League for the first time in 29 years.
This will be Shrewsbury's second visit to Wembley in the space of seven weeks after they lost the EFL Trophy final to Lincoln and it is a worry that they are now winless in four visits to Wembley. Since that loss to Lincoln, they won just one of their final six league games before overcoming Charlton in the play-offs and they are underdogs at 11/5 this weekend.
Play-Off Final Betting Tips
Shrewsbury's remarkable campaign has been based on a superb defensive effort as only champions Wigan (29) conceded less goals than the 39 that the Shrews let in. In fact, only 35% of their regular season games produced more than two goals and under 2.5 goals looks like a very solid bet at 8/11 with Betfair.
Hurst's men don't tend to give too much away as 19 of their 25 wins came via a one-goal margin, including nine 1-0 victories, and Betway go 5/4 for either side to win by just one goal, while Betfair go 4/1 about Shrewsbury to win by one.
Both meetings between these sides during the season were settled by a single goal as Shrewsbury won 1-0 away and lost 2-1 at home, which was a rare success for Rotherham in a big game.
The Millers were excellent on home soil but are they flat-track bullies? They won just three of their 12 meetings with top-seven opposition (drew three, lost six) during the regular season so they don't look great value as 13/10 favourites for what looks set to be a low scoring match that could be decided by the odd goal.
