Recent Form Suggests Newcastle v Chelsea Will Provide Goals

After dropping points against Huddersfield in the penultimate game of the season in mid-week, Chelsea want to make a final push to break into the top four with a vital win at St James’ Park against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea are at 4/6 with Ladbrokes to take the three points in the final game of the 2017/18 season. A repeat of the 3-1 the Blues managed against in their home meeting against the Toon is at best 14/1 with bet365. Better might be to see both teams to score and Chelsea run out winners at 5/2 (PaddyPower).

Newcastle v Chelsea
Exactly 2-3 goals in the match    Best Bet 11/10

Star-man Eden Hazard should be expected to be recalled after being left on the bench on Wednesday night, a decision by Antonio Conte which Chelsea paid the consequence. He scored a brace when the two teams met at Stamford Bridge back at the beginning of December. To do the same, the Belgian is supported at 13/2 with BoyleSports. BoyleSports also offers 13/8 for Hazard to score in a Chelsea win.

Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez memorably managed Chelsea for 6 months between 2012 and 2013, but the level of reverence afforded the Spaniard couldn’t be more of a contrast between the two sides. Benitez never endeared himself to the Chelsea contingent during his brief reign as manager, whereas in the North-East he is treated closer to a deity. Benitez has done exceptionally well with the limited resources and lacklustre backing provided by the Newcastle board, and he would certainly like to see out the season with a win over his out side. Newcastle are available at 11/2 (bet365) to win their final game of the season.
Match Odds:

In the penultimate game of the season, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger missed a glaring opportunity against the Terriers; the towering German defender is 11/1 to redeem himself and get on the scoresheet at Newcastle with a Chelsea win (boylesports). Blues’ performances have been rather tepid and low-scoring of late, and for Chelsea to win by one goal is 13/5 with boylesports. For them to win to nil against a Newcastle side with four consecutive losses, having not scored in three of them, is 7/4 (Coral). However, the four match winning streak Newcastle experienced before then remains in memory, and St James’ Park has produced some respectable results since the end of 2017- Newcastle’s loss to West Brom at the end of last month was their first in eight.

Newcastle v Chelsea - Head-To-Head and Odds.

Three of the last six goals in matches featuring the Toon have come around the 50minute mark, twice as the opening strike; between 46 and 55 minutes is supported at 9/1 with both Betfair and PaddyPower as the time the deadlock is broken. Dwight Gayle is the shortest Newcastle player to open the scoring, at 9/1 with PaddyPower.

Based on recent form, backing 2-3 goals in the game would be sensible. Although most offer odds on, BoyleSports provide an excellent 11/10.
