Manchester City Will Need To Be Patient To Overcome Huddersfield

Huddersfield have gained many admirers this season but approach their final three games on the cusp of sinking back into the Championship. The Terriers couldn’t have asked for a more difficult run-in to stay in the Premier League; first up are champions Manchester City who with a win will surpass the records points total for a Premier League team. The Etihad has only seen one domestic loss this season, coming at the hands of Manchester United in a quite excellent game. The Citizens are incredibly short at 1/16 with PaddyPower to take the tie this Sunday lunchtime against Huddersfield.

Manchester City v Huddersfield
Half-Time Draw and Full-Time Man City Win    Best Bet 18/5

Huddersfield fans are being put through the mill at the moment, watching their side win just one in seven and seeing them slide down the table into the murky waters of the relegation swamp. Their last two wins have come by just a one goal margin, the second to last the only time they’ve scored two in a match since the end of February. Over 0.5 goals for the West Yorkshire club is 7/4 with BetVictor. They desperately need points as soon as possible for the certainty of steering clear of the drop.

However City are pulling no punches at the moment, seeming to not just been keen on breaking records but setting their own at such a level that they won’t be easily broken in the future. Ruthless and clinical, in their last three games they have accumulated 12 goals and William Hill back a City win with 5 or more goals within the match at 15/8. They haven’t however managed to keep consecutive clean sheets, and backing the Blues to fail to do so again is at 13/8 with bet365.

It also seems that Gabriel Jesus is being warmed up for the future as the definite Aguero replacement and the spearhead of Guardiola’s attack in the forthcoming seasons. The Brazilian has started and scored in his last four and is found very short as the favourite as an anytime goalscorer at 8/13 (BoyleSports). To be first off the mark, as he has been on two of these occasions he is 3/1 (betfred).

Last time around, we backed one of the City youngsters to get on the scoresheet and there are are further calls from the City contingent for Pep Guardiola to give chances to some of the academy products in these final few games in which the team has nothing to lose except a slight dent in pride. Guardiola did give Lukas Nmecha the last ten minutes in their rout of West Ham last week.

Man City v Huddersfield - Head To Head and Odds.

While this is far from a certainty that players like Nmecha, Phil Foden, or Brahim Diaz will get a chance to shine with the Spanish manager intent on chasing further, if a little shallow, glory, it is tempting to back one of these players to score alongside a City win. Nmecha is even as short as 3/4 with BoyleSports for this. Attacking midfielder Diaz is a better shot at Evens with most to get a goal, and this goes further out with BoyleSports offering 6/5 with a City win.

Huddersfield to somehow manage a draw in Manchester is best at 13/5 with BetVictor. What seems more sensible is to see David Wagner’s side hold out until half-time, and then capitulate to a City rampage in the second 45. This is at 18/5 with Betfred. Rajiv van La Parra is a decent prospect to get on the scoresheet for Huddersfield, seeing he is out to 16/1 with BetVictor as an anytime goalscorer.
