England are unbeaten at Old Trafford since 2001, winning eight and drawing two of their ten Tests, and they are 11/10 favourites this week (Bet 365).
Joe Root's men are 2-1 up in this series after romping to victory at The Oval last time out but the inconsistency of the hosts and their propensity to follow up victory with defeat and vice-versa ensures we will be waiting for the toss before taking a punt on the result.
There is very little to choose between these two teams and it is telling that the side batting first has won all three Tests so far, with neither side likely to relish batting last on a wearing pitch in Manchester. South Africa are 11/4 to win or 9/4 to draw at this stage.
Root will hope to stamp his authority in this crucial final Test after weighing in with a series-high 360 runs so far and he will relish a match at Old Trafford, where he has scored an eye-watering 423 runs in his five Test innings. Root is 3/1 to be top England batsman (Betway).
Root's last three scores at this Manchester venue read 77, 254 and 71* so we will definitely be backing him to score over 35.5 runs in the first innings (5/6 with Ladbrokes).
England's frail batting order could do with a big innings from their captain and they will be wary of the threat posed by South Africa's fit-again Vernon Philander.
The Proteas all-rounder struggled with illness in the previous Test at The Oval but he has still weighed in with 177 runs and ten wickets in the series thus far. Make no mistake, Philander is a genuine all-rounder who loves playing Test cricket in England, where he has scored 292 runs at 36.50 and taken 22 wickets at 23.54 in six previous Tests.
Philander is 20/1 to be man-of-the-match (Ladbrokes) which looks like a massive price to us!
