2017/18 Football Tips

Steve Chambers:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Man City Pep Guardiola has been busy in the transfer market over the summer, and his Manchester City side can storm to Premier League glory, as their scintillating attacking threats can overpower a host of their top flight rivals. 15/8 with bet365.
Premier League Relegation: Huddersfield Huddersfield Town.  Simply not going to be strong enough to live with the elite of English football.  The 9/4 for them to finish bottom is a sensational price, as well as the odds-on about a relegation campaign.
Premier League Top Scorer: Gabriel Jesus Gabriel Jesus will be hoping for an injury-free season this term, but the 20-year-old Brazilian showed briefly that he is a class act, and having netted seven goals in ten appearances last season for Manchester City, he can demolish teams with Sergio Aguero, and at 9/1 with bet365 he is a great bet for the Golden Boot.
Championship Winner: Fulham Fulham ended the season in terrific form last season, and with inspirational playmaker Tom Cairney signing a new deal then the Cottagers can down the likes of Middlesbrough and Aston Villa in the second tier. 9/1 with Betfred.
League 1 Winner: Blackburn  Blackburn Rovers are the class act in League One, and while they may take a little bit of time to get to grips with the hustle and bustle of the lower echelons of the Football League, they should ultimately outclass their rivals. 9/2 with Coral.
League 2 Winner: Luton Luton Town suffered play-off heartbreak in League Two last season, losing to Blackpool in the semi-finals, but at 6/1 with Ladbrokes they are a superb bet to win the fourth tier this season.
Season Acca - Having previously tipped Leicester City for relegation on their Premier League-winning campaign, it's hard enough to grab a winning ante-post bet, so I shall refrain from trying to back more than one winner in a multi.
2017/18 Best Bet: Man City Top Scorers As you may be aware from my selections, I fancy Manchester City to dominate the Premier League this season, but the stand-out bet is for Guardiola's men to be the top scorers in the top-flight, and the 6/4 with BetVictor to top the goalscoring charts looks an absolute gift.

Paul Dunn:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Manchester City or United After splashing the cash, the Manchester clubs will surely put up a much bigger fight than last season. City are the likelier winners but United could be a better value bet.
Premier League Relegation: Huddersfield, Burnley, Brighton Not very original but Huddersfield, Burnley and Brighton could struggle to avoid the drop. Those looking for a bet at bigger odds may want to consider Leicester at 16/1.
Premier League Top Scorer: Manolo Gabbiadini Manolo Gabbiadini proved himself to be a lethal finisher in his debut season in England. If he steers clear from injuries he rates cracking each-way value at 40/1.
Championship Winner: Middlesbrough and Fulham Of those dropping down from the Premier League, Middlesbrough look the most likely to rebound straight back up whilst Fulham have the all-important Championship experience. I’ll happily split stakes and back them both each-way.
League 1 Winner: MK Dons Blackburn look the obvious choice but MK Dons are a club in transition and may find the necessary improvement at a juicy 16/1.
League 2 Winner: Luton

Luton fell just short last year and should be there or thereabouts again after making a few decent signings. They look solid 7/1 second favourites behind Mansfield.

Season Acca 4-Fold pays 9/2 with Sky Bet

Huddersfield to be relegated; Middlesbrough Top 6 Finish; Luton Top 7 Finish; Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga

2017/18 Best Bet: Man Utd win EFL Cup After bagging this at 8/1 last year, I’ll attempt to repeat the dose at just one point shorter. Mourinho always picks a strong side in the EFL Cup so I’ll take Man Utd to retain the trophy at 7/1 with bet365.

Jack Kitson:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Chelsea Backed Chelsea @ 8/1 and they waltzed to the title. They may have to juggle European football this season, but so does everyone else. Antonio Conte took to English football like a duck to water, winning a record smashing 30 league games, but while I don't expect it to be as straightforward, he has assembled a team of winners who will thrive once again.
Premier League Relegation: Stoke, Huddersfield, Burnley An under-par looking Stoke have a testing opening period, and should they stumble out the blocks I can't see them bouncing back. Huddersfield were exceptional last season, but now they are swimming with sharks. Thirdly, I see Burnley returning to the Championship at the second time of asking.
Premier League Top Scorer: Sadio Mane Sadio Mane scored a number of pivotal goals last term and I'm predicting the former Saint to sizzle this season. a scorching e/w bet @ 40/1.
Championship Winner: Middlesbrough

Defensively strong Middlesbrough now boast a number of high-quality options in attack, and with Garry Monk at the helm they are worth favourites to hoist the title.

League 1 Winner: Bradford Bradford have been wounded in the play-offs in each of the last two seasons, but they don't need to worry about that heartache this time around, as they are storming into the Championship in style.
League 2 Winner: Luton Mansfield may be the favourites but with so many new faces they may take time to gel. With this in mind I'm tipping Luton to continue their progress under Nathan Jones.
Season Acca Middlesbrough, Bradford, Luton promoted @ 38/1
2017/18 Best Bet: Wolves top Midlands team in Championship Wolves top Championship Midlands team @ 10/3

Chris Knight

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Manchester United Jose Mourinho often delivers the title in his second season at a club and I fancy the pragmatism of the Portuguese manager could see United grind out enough 1-0 wins to secure the Premier League.
Premier League Relegation: Burnley, Huddersfield, Swansea I simply cannot see Burnley being as strong at home so that could spell trouble, while Huddersfield will struggle with the step up and I wonder how Swansea will cope with the imminent departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Premier League Top Scorer: Sergio Aguero Manchester City are going to score goals for fun but can they keep things tight at the back to go the distance? Who cares! Sergio Aguero is going to have a field day (assuming he can stay fit) and 7/1 looks a great price with Sky Bet.
Championship Winner: Middlesbrough

Solid enough defensively during their relegation from the Premier League, Middlesbrough have moved to improve their attacking options. The signing of Britt Assombalonga is an astute one but the appointment of Garry Monk as manager ensures they are worthy favourites.

League 1 Winner: Fleetwood Keeping hold of manager Uwe Rosler was huge for the Cod Army and I find it remarkable that the team who finished fourth last season are as big as 28/1 (Betway) to win the division, particularly as new signing Conor McAleny promises goals at this level.
League 2 Winner: Luton Not a particularly original pick but I really like the Luton manager Nathan Jones and this could be their year. James Collins banged in 20 goals for a poor Crawley team and he joins the prolific Danny Hylton up front.
Season Acca Middlesbrough, Fleetwood, Luton promoted @ 56/1 with Paddy Power bookmakers.
2017/18 Best Bet: Kevin De Bruyne - Player Of The Year This could be a big season for Kevin De Bruyne and he will certainly be the first name in my Fantasy Football Team. The Manchester City midfielder pulls the creative strings at The Etihad and I fancy 16/1 is a very handy price for him to be named Player Of The Year...

Simon Lillicrap:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Manchester City Incredible squad depth and huge amount of money spent fixing key areas. Guardiola will have learnt from last year and they should have enough to fend off Chelsea.
Premier League Relegation: Burnley, Swansea and Stoke Taken the risky approach of picking zero promoted sides amongst these three. Stoke have lost Marco Arnautovic and could struggle if Mark Hughes becomes stale and is sacked. Burnley’s squad is poor in comparison to others. Swansea could be in danger if they lose Sigurdsson.
Premier League Top Scorer: Sergio Aguero

With a midfield that includes David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane, the Man City striker shouldn’t find goals hard to come by. Gabriel Jesus will be pushing him for a starting place and he does have injury issues but he bagged 20 last season having missed a large chunk of the season.

Championship Winner: Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough poached the best manager in the league in Garry Monk. Had a solid defence in the Premier League and have added huge attacking options in Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher. Should be very difficult to deal with.

League 1 Winner: Bradford Stuart McCall’s Bradford were desperately unlucky not to go up last season, losing 1-0 in the play-off final. They were unbeaten at Valley Parade last season and it is the intimidating atmosphere of Valley Parade that will see them pick up points at home and launch their title challenge.
League 2 Winner: Mansfield Steve Evans is a manager proven in the Championship yet he finds himself at League Two level. Mansfield have backed him this summer bringing in excellent signings such as Lee Angol, Will Atkinson and David Mirfin. They should be there or thereabouts come May.
Season Acca Yeovil, Gillingham, Rotherham, QPR & Burnley to get relegated @ 1325/1 Yeovil and Gillingham seem destined for the drop whilst Rotherham may not shake the losing rut they found themselves in last term. QPR are not improving their weak squad and could be in danger whilst Burnley have a weak side despite the managerial talents of Sean Dyche. Go big or go home.
2017/18 Best Bet: Marc McNulty top League 2 scorer Coventry are sure to be one of the stronger forces in the fourth tier this season and in Marc Mcnulty they have someone who can bang goals in for fun. A penalty expert, he scored 10 goals in 21 games at this level for Portsmouth. Looking good in pre-season. Also, keep an eye out for Jordan Ponticelli (66/1), the Coventry youngster who could set the world alight if he gets his chance in the first team.

Russell Palmer:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Chelsea Purely at the prices last year's Champions look a big price given the improvement that those around them at the top of the betting will have to find.
Premier League Relegation: Burnley and Stoke or Watford Any one from 12 teams! Burnley look vulnerable but I'd take a punt on a Stoke or Watford getting sucked in with them
Premier League Top Scorer: Harry Kane Providing he stays fit then Harry Kane is banker material to win the Golden Boot for a third year straight.
Championship Winner: Middlesbrough Boro's shrewd signings including a good young manager, there's plenty in the squad who know how to get out of this division and I'd take them every day over the likes of Villa.
League 1 Winner: Blackburn Fancy one of the teams who came down last season to bounce straight back up, with Blackburn getting the nod.
League 2 Winner: Lincoln Would be great to see Exeter kick on from last season but if Lincoln can keep their management team intact it wouldn't be a surprise to see them bag successive promotions.
Season Acca: Chelsea, Boro, Blackburn, Lincoln, Tranmere all win their leagues Pays 7593/1 with Paddy Power.
2017/18 Best Bet: Tranmere win National League Tranmere were unlucky to miss out on promotion to the Football League last season but with no Lincoln this year they can make amends.

Sean Raymond:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Man City Chelsea will go close again but Man City have the strongest squad by some distance, and anything other than a Premier League title will be a complete failure for Pep Guardiola.
Premier League Relegation: Crystal Palace Frank De Boer struggled in tough circumstances at Inter and he is going to find it hard to change the Palace style of play this term. He will want them to play it from the back, and they don't look good enough to do it.
Premier League Top Scorer: Alvaro Morata Alvaro Morata has a little bit of everything in the locker with pace, skill and intelligence under the bonnet. Expect the Spaniard to hit the ground running for Chelsea.
Championship Winner: Middlesbrough An unoriginal selection but they have everything in place at the Riverside to bounce straight back to the Premier League. Garry Monk is an excellent addition as Manager and there will be no excuses if they don't win the title.
League 1 Winner: Portsmouth Pompey finally made it out of League One last term and with Kenny Jackett at the helm they can do a famous double. Brett Pitman will score bucket loads at this level having arrived at Fratton Park and Portsmouth will benefit.
League 2 Winner: Cambridge United Shaun Derry is building a strong reputation as a young manager and with the club narrowly missing out on the play-offs last term, they have strengthened over the summer, and can have a big season.
Season Acca - -
2017/18 Best Bet: Pitman Top League 1 Scorer
The aforementioned Pitman has a point to prove at Portsmouth and as his stint at Bournemouth proved, he is more than dangerous at this level. The new Pompey Captain will be on penalties and free-kick duty as well, and as such, looks a big price.

Richard Smith:

  Tip Why?
Premier League Winner: Chelsea  Chelsea. A convincing course and distance winner, last time out, Conte's men have fewest questions to answer of those in the mix and should put a convincing title defence at a nice price of 7/2, especially with some shrewd additions to an already talent laden squad.
Premier League Relegation: Burnley, Huddersfield, Brighton Burnley's home form has to regress, so they are a lock to return to The Championship at 13/10. Add Huddersfield and Brighton and it makes for a tasty 16/1 treble with B365
Premier League Top Scorer: Alvaro Morata It's a presumptive risk, but  a calculated one at 10/1 - if Alvaro Morata can show anything close to the kind of strike-rate he did at Real, last season, he should be in the mix at a club that will be amongst the highest scorers in the league.
Championship Winner: Fulham Two wins from their first 11, last season, cost Fulham an automatic spot, but for the remaining 35 games, they were a match for anyone before falling short in the play-offs. At 9/1, it is well worth taking a punt that Slavisa Jokanovic can find that bit extra required to win the title.
League 1 Winner: Bradford Bradford finished last season like a train before hitting the buffers in the play-off final to Millwall. In his second season in charge, Stuart McCall is taken to lead The Bantams to the title at a tasty price of 12/1, with their striker, Charlie Wyke, a cracking shout to be the league's top scorer at 16/1.
League 2 Winner: Exeter  In recent seasons, teams beaten in the play-offs, the previous year, have a good record of going one better, 12 months later, and Exeter can be that team in 2018. A turgid start last season meant that they were chasing their tails for the best part of the season, but at 17/1 with PaddyPower.com, The Grecians look good value to give backers a run for their money.
Season Acca: Five-Fold Pays 170/1 Burnley to be relegated; Burton to be relegated; Shrewsbury to be relegated; Morecambe to be relegated; Salford to win National League North. Pays 170/1!
2017/18 Best Bet: Salford win National League North Salford to win National League North. The professional teams have a record of winning this division in recent years and with the money being thrown at Salford, they should be a safe bet to justify favouritism in the sixth tier.

2017/18 Football Odds:

Premier League Winner | Relegation | Top Goalscorer

Championship | League One | League Two
