The third Masters 1000 Event on the men's ATP Tour is the Monte Carlo Masters and it follows on quickly from the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. It takes place in mid-April last year and is a key guide for form ahead of betting on the French Open in May.
It is so important as it represents a change in surface as the players go from the hard courts of Miami to the clay courts of Monte Carlo. When clay courts are mentioned there will no doubt be only one name at the head of the ante-post betting to win the tournament, and the Monte Carlo Masters and French Open are no different. Rafael Nadal has been a tremendous champion at both tournaments in recent years and he is a formidable proposition on the courts he was brought up on in Majorca. He will surely be odds on favourite for the 2.75 million (Euros) prize purse Masters and he is sure to be offered at short odds to produce the win.
Before the dominance of Nadal, previous winners include Guillermo Coria, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Gustavo Kuerton. But since then Nadal has been dominant in this important tennis tournament and it will take something special to beat him. But it does also mean that in the betting there should be plenty of value to be found in the odds of the other players, especially clay court specialists. Stars such as Roger Federer and Andy Murray could be worth backing to upset the odds, particularly as Federer has been a runner up on several occasions.
| Year | Winner | Runner Up | Score |
| 2001 | Gustavo Kuerten | Hicham Arazi | 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 |
| 2002 | Juan Carlos Ferrero | Carlos Moya | 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 |
| 2003 | Juan Carlos Ferrero | Guillermo Coria | 6-2, 6-2 |
| 2004 | Guillermo Coria | Rainer Schuttler | 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 |
| 2005 | Rafael Nadal | Guillermo Coria | 6-3, 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 |
| 2006 | Rafael Nadal | Roger Federer | 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 |
| 2007 | Rafael Nadal | Roger Federer | 6-4, 6-4 |
| 2008 | Rafael Nadal | Roger Federer | 7-5, 7-5 |
| 2009 | Rafael Nadal | Novak Djokovic | 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 |
| 2010 | Rafael Nadal | Fernando Verdasco | 6-0, 6-1 |
| 2011 | Rafael Nadal | David Ferrer | 7-5, 6-4 |
| 2012 | Rafael Nadal | Novak Djokovic | 6-3, 6-1 |
Rafael Nadal eased to victory once again in Monte Carlo as he claimed the title for an eighth consecutive year. He beat Novak Djokovic in the final to extend his winning run to 42 matches on the Monte Carlo clay.
Final Result:
Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-1

The Madrid Open takes place on the clay courts of Madrid during May each year and is part of the ATP Tour's Masters events.
It has witnessed a variety of winners during the past few years including Andy Murray, Roger Federer and David Nalbandian. But the change from hard courts to clay courts in 2009 means that Rafa Nadal is likely to be a strong force on a surface he loves.
The matches in Madrid are best of three set affairs nowadays which makes it a rare opportunity for tennis betting as a slow start from even the very best in the world could result in the ante-post odds being upset......
