The ATP World Tour Finals takes place at the O2 Arena in London during November and the defending champion is Swiss star Roger Federer. The tournament is regarded as the fifth Grand Slam and ranks in official terms ahead of the ATP 1000 Masters events but behind the four Grand Slam events of:
The tournament is open to the top eight mens players in the world which for obvious reasons makes it an extremely high standard event. The eight players are divided into two pools of four, where a Round Robin series will decide the top player in each Pool, who will then go on to meet each other in the final.
Up until 2008 the matches were decided over five sets but they are now decided over just three.
Roger Federer holds the record for the most amount of wins, with six wins and he is now one victory ahead of Pete Sampras and Ivan Lendl.

Roger Federer won the ATP World Tour Finals for a record sixth time with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final. Federer had looked to be cruising when he went a set and a break up but Tsonga fought back well, saving a match point in the second set, to take it to a decider. Federer stepped his game up though to win through and end his season on a high.

The ATP Masters 1000 Series comprises of nine tournaments that are played throught vteh calendar year and in several venues throughout the world. The ATP 1000 series ranks third in terms of prestige, behind the World Tour Finals and the four Grand Slam tournaments.
