Odds suggests Andy Murray will go another season without a Grand Slam win

Andy Murray's defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final has left many wondering whether the British tennis star has what it takes to win a Grand Slam title and there are plenty of specials betting markets available for his season ahead. Sky Bet bookmakers appear dubious about his prospects of winning a Grand Slam title in 2011 as he is currently as short as 2/5 to end the season without a Grand Slam crown.

Djokovic systematically pulled Murray apart in Melbourne with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 victory to reclaim the Australian Open title he last won in 2008. It was a bitter pill to swallow for Murray who also lost out in the final to Roger Federer in 2010 and in three Grand Slam finals he is yet to win a set. He appeared downcast after his defeat to Djokovic which has led some to question his desire to become the first British player to win a Grand Slam since Fred Perry back in 1936. He is though an industry best price of 9/4 to win one Grand Slam this season but that appears a long way off unless he can improve his first serve percentage which held him back so significantly in Australia.

Away from the Grand Slams, there is also the matter of the Masters Series tournaments and Murray managed to win two of those last year - the Canada Masters and the Shanghai Masters. He is available at 6/4 with Sky Bet to win one Masters title or 9/4 to win two, and it will be a difficult task as the likes of Rafa Nadal, Federer and Djokovic treat these events so seriously.

It is a concerning statistic that Murray won six singles titles in 2009 but only managed two in 2010, and SkyBet.com offer odds of 9/1 for him to win no singles titles this year. While six or more singles titles is available at 9/4 as everyone looks to see how he responds to another comprehensive defeat in a Grand Slam final.
