Andy Murray will be looking closely at the US Open Tennis draw and realising that he has a huge chance of winning the title this year. The number 4 seed has been drawn in the same half as number one seed and world number one, Rafael Nadal, a man he knows he can beat on the fast hardcourts of Flushing Meadow. Some Bookmakers have not been slow to recognise the fact either and Skybet for instance have cut Murray’s odds in the betting to 5/2 from 3/1. He is still available at 3/1 from Ladbrokes Bookmakers, which, in our opinion are well worth taking.
As the draw stands and assuming they win all their matches, Murray should meet Nadal in the Semi Final, and looking at the draw neither man should have too much difficulty in getting there. Murray may have to play Wimbledon runner up Tomas Berdych in the last eight, which could prove testing, but Murray is probably a better player on hardcourts than Berdych and should be able to see him off.
2010 US Masters Tennis Championship Betting Comparison
Murray defeated Nadal in the US Open Semi Final in 2008, before going on to lose the final to Federer, but he defeated both men in the recent ATP 1000 Toronto Masters, which he won and knows that he is capable of repeating the act. He also beat Nadal in the Australian Open Semi Final earlier this year. Murray open’s up his assault on the final Grand Slam of the year against Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, who is ranked 72 in the world and who has never played at the US Open before nor has he ever played Murray.

In the other half of the draw, Roger Federer, who has beaten Murray on both of the Scot’s previous Grand Slam Final appearances, would appear to have a tough draw in which he will need to overcome Lleyton Hewitt in the third round, a man who he has already lost to this year. Should he get through that he is likely to face Marin Cilic, a semi finalist last year and the man who put Murray out in the 4th round in 2009. His quarter final opponent is sure to be Robin Soderling, who beat Federer in the French Open earlier this year, and Federer’s quest will not get any easier by having, in all probability to face Novak Djokovic in the semi final. It is also worth noting that Federer has been knocked out at the quarter final stages of the last two Grand Slams and the 5/2 of offer from Ladbrokes.com for him to win the tournament for a sixth time might be better left alone.
9/4 Federer
11/4 Nadal
3/1 Murray
12/1 Djokovic
16/1 Soderling
16/1 Roddick
20/1 Nalbandian
25/1 Davydenko
