Roger Federer has been clipped into odds on favouritism in the latest betting for the ATP World Tour Finals as the Swiss star continues to rediscover his old form. Federer is now 8/15 on to win the season-ending event for the fifth time in his career, while the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have drifted right out with Boylesports.
Federer has won three of the past five Tour Finals and his rejuvenated form could serve as a stark warning for next season. The world number four has now won his last fourteen matches, including tournament wins at Basle and Paris, and he has carried that form into London this week.
His destruction of Nadal was Federer at his very best and most would agree that it was one of the finest performances of his career as he won through 6-3, 6-0. The victory followed a hard fought win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the group stages and he looks the only one of the top players to have the credentials to win this tournament outright at the moment.
Nadal arrived in London with doubts surrounding his fitness and a laboured win over Mardy Fish, who has lost both of his matches so far and is out of the competition, and humiliation at the hands of Federer showed that the Spaniard is not at his best yet. Boylesports.com have reacted by easing Nadal out to a juicy 10/1 to win a tournament that he has never won before, although he was runner up last year.
World number one Novak Djokovic (7/1) also arrived in London as a fitness doubt as he has struggled with a shoulder injury. The Serb looked a shadow of his former self when he suffered a shock defeat to David Ferrer on Wednesday and a season in which he has won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open appears to be taking its toll.
A long season has already claimed Andy Murray as the British number one was forced to withdraw from the tournament with injury. Janko Tipsarevic replaced him but he lost his match against Tomas Berdych (14/1) and cannot now qualify for the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, David Ferrer, a finalist here in 2007, has been clipped into 8/1 after his stunning victory over Djokovic, while the enigmatic Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is alongside Nadal at 10/1.
After the group stages, the top two players from each group go on to the semi-final stage and at the moment Federer's rivals face a tough task to deny him a sixth World Tour Finals title.
8/15 Roger Federer
7/1 Novak Djokovic
8/1 David Ferrer
10/1 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
10/1 Rafael Nadal
14/1 Tomas Berdych
