The Australian Tennis Open seedings which are a replica of the World rankings suggest that the mens final will be a repeat of 12 months ago, with Roger Federer taking on reigning champion Rafa Nadal.
The same outcome according to the Ladies seedings is also likely with a repeat final between four time champion Serena Williams and Russian Dinara Safina. The Australian Open is the first of four tennis Grand Slams of the year.
Whatever the draw it is difficult to oppose Federer to reach yet another mens Grand Slam final, but whether he can win it is a another matter. Nadal has shown signs of getting back to his best lately, but he may face a very tough match in the quarter final where he is due to meet Britain’s Andy Murray, who is third favourite behind Federer and Nadal to win the title.
The mens betting from Victor Chandler has Federer as 5/2 favourite, Nadal is 7/2, while Murray is one of three players at 11/2, the others being Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro. Tennis punters can also get odds of 4/1 from Skybet for a Federer/Nadal final.

Serena Williams is currently favourite to win the womens title, but she is carrying an injury sustained last week and may not be at her best. Next best in the betting are the two Belgians on the comeback trail. Kim Clijsters, who won the US Open last September and Justine Henin, winner of seven Grand Slam titles. Bookmakers Bet365 have Serena at 5/2, with Clijsters 7/2 and Henin at 5/1.
