Sir Andy Murray Tipped To Finally Win The Australian Open

The draw for the 2017 Men's Australian Open has provided plenty of intrigue as Sir Andy Murray could face Roger Federer in the quarter-finals, while Novak Djokovic finds himself in the bottom-half of the draw with Rafael Nadal and the dangerous Milos Raonic...

Murray's Time To Shine

Murray's ascent to the world number one ranking has been an absolute pleasure to observe and the three-time Grand Slam winner will be desperate to add the Australian Open title to his burgeoning CV. The 29-year-old has finished runner-up in Melbourne on five occasions but we are backing him to break that drought by securing the title (7/4 with Paddy Power).

Murray opens this year's event with a first round clash against Illya Marchenko and he appears to have a relatively straightforward route to the quarter-finals, where either Kei Nishikori (33/1) or Roger Federer (25/1) could be lying in wait.

Murray will be desperate to avenge last year's US Open defeat to Nishikori, who has been a three-time quarter-finalist in Australia, while Federer's ageing body continues its rehabilitation but it is worth noting that the four-time Australian Open winner hasn't reached a Melbourne final since securing the last of his titles here in 2010.

Stan Wawrinka (14/1) could be lying in wait in the semi-finals and the 2014 winner is an obvious threat, although the US Open champion could face a tricky task against Nick Kyrgios (50/1 with Boylesports) in his quarter.

Djokovic And The Bottom-Half

Murray has met Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open on four occasions in the past six years and another Murray v Djokovic finale can be backed at 7/4 with Sky Bet.

Djokovic has won five of the past six editions of the opening major of the year and the six-time champion is aiming for a record-breaking seventh crown in Melbourne. Djokovic is also priced 7/4 (Betfair) for glory and he opens his title defence against Fernando Verdasco, who had five match points before losing to Djokovic in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open.

Djokovic went on to win the Qatar Open in an epic final against Murray but we fancy the defeat will have added fuel to Murray's fire and the Serb perhaps isn't guaranteed an easy route to the final this time as the up-and-coming Dominic Thiem is a potential third round opponent, while the mercurial Grigor Dimitrov, who beat Thiem, Raonic and Nishikori en route to winning the Brisbane International earlier this month, could be lying in wait in the fourth round.

Raonic To Fire

Meanwhile, 2009 champion Rafael Nadal is in the same half of the draw as Djokovic but the 2012 and 2014 runner-up makes little appeal at 14/1 as he was knocked out in the first round twelve months ago and he is pencilled in to meet Alexander Zverev in the third round before facing Gael Monfils in the fourth round.

The winner of that section could face a quarter-final against the big-serving Milos Raonic, who has progressive form in Melbourne having reached the quarter-finals in 2015 and the semi-finals in 2016.

The 26-year-old enjoys the benefit of a nice early draw and he did beat Nadal in Brisbane recently, while he won three of his four meetings with Monfils last season. The Canadian has never beaten Djokovic in eight attempts but there is no doubt that he is growing in stature in the world game and he looks decent each-way value at 20/1 (PaddyPower.com).
