Britain's Andy Murray will continue his grass court preparations on Saturday when he plays Andy Roddick in the semi-finals of the Aegon Championships. Murray is hot favourite in the betting with Paddy Power as they price him 4/7 on for the match at the Queen's Club, while four time champion Roddick is available at 5/4.
Murray received a welcome boost on Friday as his quarter-final opponent Marin Cilic was forced to withdraw with an injury before a ball was hit. The extra days rest will be ideal for Murray as he has been struggling with the ankle injury he picked up en route to the French Open semi-finals.
The world number four had shown some discomfort with the ankle during a hard fought three sets win over Xavier Malisse in his opening match, but looked far more comfortable as he disposed of Janko Tipsarevic in the last sixteen.
Murray was champion at Queens in 2009 and will be keen to progress as he prepares for Wimbledon later this month. He leads Roddick in head-to-head meetings by 6-4 and the correct score of 2-0 to Murray looks very tempting at 7/5 in the betting with Paddy Power. That looks good when you consider only three of their meetings have seen both players win a set.
In fact Murray is 8/13 on to win the first set and 11/4 to win the tournament but he faces a tough task against Roddick, who has won the Queen's tournament four times (2003 to 2005 and in 2007). Roddick is at home on the grass courts and this is his eighth semi-final appearance in the Championships as he looks to improve on a poor 2011 season.
The American beat Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter-finals and has only lost one set in the tournament so far - to fellow countryman Kevin Anderson. We fancy that Murray should take at least one set on Saturday and for Roddick to win he might have to go the distance and the correct score of 2-1 to Roddick could prove interesting at 7/2 with PaddyPower.com.
It is well worth remembering that Roddick has been a top ten player for nine consecutive years now though and he remains a tempting punt to win the tournament at 5/1.
The other semi-final will see James Ward take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, after Ward ensured that there were two Brits in the last four at Queens for the first time in the open era. The British number two starts as a huge outsider for the match at 13/2 in the betting, and he faces a tough task against Tsonga, who knocked world number one Rafael Nadal out in the last eight.
Tsonga's win over Nadal has caused plenty of change in the betting to win the tournament, with Murray now 6/4 favourite, Tsonga second favourite at 13/8, with Roddick available at 5/2, and Ward remains the rank outsider at 20/1.
