The 2010 Australian Open Tennis Championship gets underway once again on 15th January and concludes with the men’s final on the 31st. As usual it is world number one, Roger Federer who is favourite for the title with odds of 5/2 with Boylesports. Obviously it is little wonder that the Swiss superstar should be favourite having reached an incredible seventeen finals from the last eighteen Grand Slams he has played – it is a record that he can only improve upon and one that is highly unlikely to be topped. Federer has won the Australian Open three times, the last time being in 2007.
Surprisingly, reigning champion, Rafael Nadal is only fourth in the betting, with odds of 11/2 from Skybet. This price we think offers good value particularly because Nadal looks like he is back to his best and was very impressive when winning his first tournament in Abu Dhabi earlier this month since his comeback from injury last season. It was he and Federer who fought out an epic final last year which Nadal won n five sets.

Britain’s Andy Murray, who is the only top five player not to have won a Grand Slam is second in the betting with odds of around 9/2, however he can still be backed to win at 6/1 with Boylesports
Fifth ranked player and reigning US Open champion, Juan Martin del Potro is disputing second favouritism with Murray. He defeated Federer in the US Open final back in September where he proved that he has the perfect temperament for Grand Slam events. Many feel that the young Argentine will overhaul Murray to be world number four this year and many more are tipping him to go all the way in Melbourne, where he is a best price to win of 5/1 with Paddy Power.
2008 champion, Novak Djokovic after a dodgy start, had a superb finish to the 2009 season, which saw him regain the world number three spot from Murray and win six singles titles in the process. He looked the form player as the year closed and if he should show the same sort of zest when the Australian Open starts he could be the man to have your money on. Djokovic is an 11/2 option with bet365.
9/4 Federer, 9/2 Murray, Del Potro, Nadal, 11/2 Djokovic, 12/1 Davydenko, 20/1 Soderling, Cilic, 25/1 Roddick, Tsonga, 40/1 Verdasco, 80/1 BAR.
