Andy Murray makes his return to tennis this week after the disappointment of his crushing defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final. The British star is ante-post favourite for the ABN AMRO Tournament in Rotterdam, which gets underway on Monday, and he is as short as odds of 3/1 with Boylesports to return with a tournament win.
His return is a little quicker than expected as he had suggested that he wouldn't return to tennis for a while because of how long it took him to get over his defeat in the Australian Open final in 2010. He opens the Dutch tournament he won in 2009 with a really tough first round match as he plays Marcos Baghdatis, who himself had a decent Australian Open and is a 22/1 punt this week, on Wednesday. Murray's half of the draw is littered with top quality names and he could play Gilles Simon, Feliciano Lopez and Ivan Ljubicic in the opening rounds, although Novak Djokovic is absent with injury so Murray will be thankful for small mercies.
He looks a little too short at 3/1 to back this week as the draw hasn't been kind and considering how long it took him to return to form last year after his disappointment in the Australian Open, he is probably better left alone.
Boylesports have reigning champion Robin Soderling as second favourite in Rotterdam and he is available at odds of 7/2 ahead of his first round match against Dutch wildcard Robin Haase. Soderling crashed out of the Australian Open in the fourth round as he lost out to Alexandr Dolgopolov in a tournament he rarely performs well in. He has decent form as he finished runner up in 2008 before his win last year, and he won a tournament in Brisbane a few weeks ago.
David Ferrer looks to offer some real value with Boylesports.com at 10/1, and he gets his tournament underway against Jarkko Nieminen. Ferrer was semi-finalist in Melbourne at the Australian Open as he knocked out Rafa Nadal before losing out to Murray. He is in the opposite half of the draw to Murray this time though and could be worth a look to have a decent run.
Elsewhere, Mikhail Youzhny is available at odds of 25/1 with Boyles and while he may not be a name that all tennis fans are familiar with he is historically a decent performer at the ABN AMRO Tournament in Rotterdam. The world number 10 has reached the final on three occasions, winning in 2007 before finishing runner up to Soderling last year.
We fancy Andy Murray's hangover from his defeat to Djokovic could continue this week, and Boyles offer Baghdatis at tempting odds of 10/3 to beat Murray in their first round match incidentally. When looking for an outright winner, David Ferrer could be the man to look out for in Rotterdam this week.
