Barely has Rafael Nadal had time to bask in the glory of his French Open win than he is back in action in the Aegon Championships at the Queens Club in London, starting on Monday. The tournament represents a shift from Nadal's favourite clay courts to the grass but he still heads the betting at 5/2 with Bet 365, with Britain's Andy Murray also short priced for success.
Nadal clinched a record equalling sixth French Open title at Roland Garros on Sunday as he moved level with the legendary Bjorn Borg. The 'King of Clay' will begin his Wimbledon preparations, injury permitting, at Queen's and he is without a doubt the man to beat. Nadal is the reigning Wimbledon champion and was winner at Queen's in 2008, but how much the past two weeks on the clay have taken out of the world number one could be key in London this week.
Andy Murray will be hoping that Nadal is exhausted after his thrilling four set final win over Roger Federer and the Brit will be keen for revenge after Nadal beat him in the semi-finals at Roland Garros. The draw certainly looks to be wide open for Murray, particularly as Federer has opted to play in Basle this week and Novak Djokovic has had to pull out due to injury.
B365 price Murray 7/2 to emerge victorious this week as he looks to clinch the title he won in 2009, although he could be on course for a last four meeting with the dangerous Andy Roddick.
Roddick's huge serve makes his game ideally suited to the grass court season and the American will be delighted to leave the slow clay courts behind. He opted to withdraw from the French Open due to an injury so he is well rested and that could well give him an edge over his nearest rivals.
It is well worth noting that he is a four time champion at Queens and is bidding to become the first man to win the title for a fifth time. He could be well worth backing at 5/1 in the betting with Bet365.com and looks to be a dark horse for the Wimbledon title as it was only two years ago that he was runner up to Federer in a five set thriller in the final at SW19.
Elsewhere, Juan Martin Del Potro is finally returning to form this year after being plagued by injuries and the former US Open champion represents decent value at 13/2. He lost out to the rampant Djokovic in France last week but his big hitting style should suit Queens and as the tournament is only a week long there will be far less demands on his creaking body.
It is no just all about the head of the betting though as last year's champion Sam Querrey proved. Querrey came from nowhere to win the title and looks to represent great value again his year at 33/1, although he faces a tough task as he is in the same quarter as Del Potro, 20/1 shot Stanislas Wawrinka, Gilles Simon and Rainer Schuettler, and could then face Nadal in the semi-final.
5/2 Rafael Nadal
7/2 Andy Murray
5/1 Andy Roddick
13/2 Juan Martin Del Potro
14/1 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
20/1 Stanislas Wawrinka
22/1 Ivo Karlovic
22/1 Marin Cilic
33/1 BAR
