There will be plenty of British tennis fans dismayed by the fact that world number one, Rafael Nadal is favourite to defeat Andy Murray in the second of the mens singles semi finals on the Centre Court at Wimbledon on Friday. Paddy Power Bookmakers have made Nadal 8/13 odds on favourite to win with Murray a short but acceptable 5/4 to deny him and make his first Wimbledon final.
Both men came storming back from shaky starts in the quarter final matches on Wednesday, Nadal went a set down to Robin Soderling, but won the next three sets, playing some of the best tennis seen at Wimbledon this year. Murray did likewise against the big hitting Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, winning the last two sets 6-2, 6-2, and in the process that he is really up for the challenge this year.
Wimbledon Mens Singles Odds Comparison.
With Federer out of the tournament, favouritism to win the mens singles title this year rests on the shoulders of Nadal, who of course won the title two years ago, he has been made 6/5 favourite with paddy power while Murray is second favourite at 11/5 with the same Bookmakers.
The two have met on the tens circuit ten times in the past where Nadal has a 7-3 lead, however Murray backers should not be deterred from that fact as Murray has won three of their last five encounters, including his defeat of Nadal in the semi final of the Australian Open earlier this year. Admittedly Nadal was carrying an injury which forced him to retire in that match, but he was also losing badly at the time which to most, suggested that Murray had got the Spaniard’s measure.

Whatever the outcome of this match, it should provide the millions of tennis fans worldwide with a feast of top quality tennis, but picking the winner at this stage is no easy task. Murray has only dropped one set at Wimbledon this year, whereas Nadal has been dropping them regularly, indeed he had to come from behind to win his 4th round match from two sets down.
The form of both players suggests to us, that Murray, provided he serves to a decent standard can take on and beat Nadal in this match. It will take an almighty effort but with the centre court crowd behind him and confidence sky high we think he can win and we would back him to do so in four sets with odds of 9/2 from Paddy Power. com
