Novak Djokovic is odds on to beat Roger Federer in their French Open semi-final clash on Friday. The Serb is now favourite to win the tournament outright but he will have to overcome Federer, who has not lost a set in the tournament so far, in the last four and he is 1/3 on with Boylesports bookmakers to do so.
Djokovic is now unbeaten in 43 matches, 41 this year, and his cause was helped on Tuesday when his scheduled quarter-final opponent Fabio Fognini withdrew with injury, handing the Australian Open champion a walkover. It means Djokovic has had plenty of rest before Friday's match, while Federer was in action on Tuesday.
2009 French Open champion Federer though has been in fine form himself at Roland Garros, winning each of his matches in straight sets and he dismantled home favourite Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 in the quarter-finals. Federer can be backed at 5/2 in the match betting and that looks very tempting when you consider that the 16 time Grand Slam champion was French Open runner up to Rafael Nadal in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The clay courts of Roland Garros are obviously not as alien to Federer as some people like to make out and we fancy the match again Djokovic could go the distance - with Boylesports offering 5/2 that Friday's match goes to five sets.
In terms of head-to-heads between the two stars, Federer leads 13-9 but Djokovic has won the last three meetings - including their Australian Open semi-final clash. Only one of their matches has gone to five sets but it looks set to be a classic this week.
Djokovic won in five sets at the US Open in 2010 and he can be backed to win 3-2 on Friday at odds of 21/5. Federer could well lose his first set of the tournament against the Serb but he looks great value at 7/1 to win 3-2 with Boylesports.com and end Djokovic's winning run, but it will take something special to topple the Serb.
Djokovic has now been installed as the bookies favourite to win the tournament outright, with Boyles going 9/10 on his chances, while Federer is a 13/2 chance. Whoever wins their semi-final meeting will fancy their chances of winning the tournament as Rafa Nadal has admitted he is far from Grand Slam winning form and the five time champion has been eased out to 19/10 to win at Roland Garros for a sixth time.
