Welsh Open Snooker Betting: Odds make John Higgins slight favourite to retain his title

John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan are battling it out for favouritism in the betting for the 2011 Welsh Open at the Newport Centre this week, and the two could meet as early as the quarter-final stage as they are in the same quarter of the draw. Paddy Power bookmakers have reigning champion Higgins as slight favourite in the betting at 11/2, with O'Sullivan available at an industry best priced 6/1 for the tournament which starts on Monday.

Higgins has been in inspired form since his return to snooker after his suspension from the sport and will be keen to retain the title he won in 2010. He beat Ali Carter in the final last year and then went on to win the UK Championship in December, and is very much the man to beat in the sport at the moment. Such has been his return to form he is now world number one and takes on qualifier Jack Lisowski in the first round in Newport, but it remains to be seen where his game is at following the death of his father which caused him to withdraw from the German Masters last week.
