Dubai Desert Classic Odds: Rory McIlroy a short priced favourite in the betting

This week sees the final leg of the 'Desert Swing', with the Omega Dubai Desert Classic signing off what has been an excellent few weeks in the Middle East. This small period in the Race to Dubai calendar is my favourite as very strong course form gives you the chance to whittle your shortlist down to some very reliable players. Whether it's just the time of year or the course set ups in the desert, there are certain players who return to Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Dubai year after year with a good week's work. Take last week for example, Paul Lawrie has always played well in Doha and the Scot returned to the scene of his 1999 victory with a 50/1 win tipped up by the Betting Directory.

If you followed us last week you'll hopefully have some winnings to play with this week in what is another good field. Heading the betting is Rory McIlroy, winner here in 2009 and top ten finishes on his two appearances since. The Northern Irishman finished second in Abu Dhabi a fortnight ago, one shot behind winner Robert Rock (40/1) despite picking up a two shot penalty for 'testing the surface'. McIlroy missed the rigours of Qatar last week and has been sending out positive tweets about his game. Bookmaker Paddy Power make McIlroy their 4/1 favourite which looks very short and at that price he's probably worth taking on.
