AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is the early bookmakers favourite for the vacant Burnley manager's job following Brian Laws departure on Wednesday. Burnley slipped down to ninth place in the Championship following a Bank Holiday home defeat to Scunthorpe and part of the crowd were calling for his head. The former Sheffield Wednesday manager took over the reigns at Burnley during their doomed Premier League campaign last season, when Owen Coyle left for Lancashire rivals Bolton midway through the season. Bournemouth manager Howe is the first real market mover in the betting, with Victor Chandler making him their even money favourite in from 14's when the market opened.
Howe successfully got his home town club Bournemouth promoted into League 1 last season, despite ongoing financial issues and transfer embargos. This season, the Cherries have defied odds again as they sit in the play-off stages at the halfway point. It would be a huge hammer blow to the south coast side were they to lose Howe, but this early gamble suggests that the Burnley hierachy have Howe well and truly on their radar.
