2010 Ascot Coral Hurdle Odds: Karabak can reverse fortunes with Zaynar at Berkshire track

There's a small but competitive field for the Coral Ascot Hurdle on Saturday afternoon, with last years winner Zaynar heading the betting at odds of 5/4 for the race with bookmaker Paddy Power. The Nicky Henderson trained five year old was one time favourite for the Champion Hurdle last season, where he eventually finished third behind stablemate Binocular. An impressive winner of the Triumph Hurdle in 2009 he won this race on his way to Cheltenham twelve months ago, beating Karabak by six lengths at odds of 9/4 joint favourite. A slip up at Kelso in February in his last prep run for the Champion Hurdle saw Nicky Henderson's horse lose when a 1/14 favourite and he's yet to win since. Granted, the two previous starts since were the Champion Hurdle where he did well to finish third and again when beaten favourite in the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle in April. The five-year-old carries 11-8 on Saturday which could well bring the joint second favourites into the reckoning for the race.

Alan King's Karabak will be receiving eight pounds from Zaynar in Saturday's race and would love to turn the tables on Nicky Henderson's horse here. Perennial runner-up behind the brilliant Big Buck's in the staying hurdle ranks, Karabak has a course and distance win to his name at Ascot and looks well in at the weights to get back to winning ways on Saturday for a stable that is bang in form and at 7/2 looks a good bet.
