Rabobank Champion Hurdle Odds: Hurricane Fly heads betting for Punchestown Grade 1

Friday at Punchestown is headed by the Grade 1 Rabobank Champion Hurdle run over two miles. Favourite for the race is the victor here for the last two years Hurricane Fly with bookmakerPaddy Powermaking the eight year old as short as 2/5 to win the race. The horse won the race as a six and seven year old and sandwiched between the two was a win in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Things didn't go quite to plan this year at the Festival where he could only finish third.

Just four runners go to post in Friday's race which will be run on heavy ground. The eight year old's apparent frailty having been never relly in touch at Cheltenham doesn't look like being put to serious test this week with stable mate Thousand Stars his nearest competitor in the betting. Katie Walsh will take on her brother abourd Thousand Stars who was beaten into second by Ruby and Huricane Fly a year ago and also finished third in the race two years ago. The eight year old grey has had a busy campaign and highlights include a win here in the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle in November and he narrowly missed out on landing the Aintree Hurdle earlier in the month losing by a quarter of a length to Oscar Whisky for the second consecutive year. The going shouldn't be a problem as he stays two and a half miles but has nine punds to make up on official ratings to Friday's favourite. At 7/2 he looks to be the closest rival to the market leaer.
