US Masters Third Round Odds: Woods and McIlroy Clear Favourites at Augusta

Rory McIlroy, the 21 year old Ulsterman will begin the third round of the 2011 US Masters holding a two stroke lead from Australian Jason Day after carding a 69 in the second round at Augusta putting him on ten under par. Ominously however is the emergence of the brilliant Tiger Woods, who looked back to his very best on the back nine, producing a sumptuous second round of 66 putting him just three shots off the lead, alongside KJ Choi. Wood’s move has forced the Bookmakers to ‘run for cover big time’ with the four time past winner is now favourite in the betting to win a fifth ‘Green Jacket with Boylesports with odds of 11/4, while McIlroy is next best with odds of 3/1.

There was no sign of McIlroy putting in a performance similar to that he gave at the same stage in the Open Championship last year, when capitulating after holding the first round lead. Instead the youngster carried on where he left off on Thursday and by the turn had reached ten under and held a three shot lead. However, he could add no more net birdies on the back nine, despite several close calls and had to settle for a 69. Whilst McIlroy was maintaining the lead, his playing partner Jason Day was blitzing the final nine holes and getting ever closer to McIlroy’s lead. Day finished the round with a 64, the best of the week so far and is two off the lead as they go into day three. Despite the magnificence of his round, the Bookmakers were not terribly impressed and Boylesports offer odds of 14/1 about Day winning his first ‘Masters’
