Kauto Star goes to post at Kempton Park this Boxing Day to hopefully win his fourth King George Chase on the bounce thus announcing himself as one of the very few National Hunt legends. On paper he is almost impossible to oppose, but with odds of around 4/7 with bet365. for instance he is also almost impossible to back. Yes we think he will win the race, but the name of the game is value and there are others in the field who can make a decent profit for punters with little risk involved.
One of those in opposition is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Imperial Commander who got within a nose of Kauto in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park in November. It was an outstanding effort but he will need to top that if he is to get the better of the country's top chaser, who will have come on for that run. Nonetheless, Imperial Commander is a 3/1 bet with VC Bet in the market without the favourite and in theory at least, it should be one he can win.

Dual Grade Two winner, Deep Purple is another who looks like he could offer value. Trained by Evan Williams, this 8 year old looks to be the biggest improver of all this season so far. He looked a class act when winning the Peterborough Chase a couple of weeks ago at Huntingdon where he had some real quality well beaten. He jumped supremely well at pace and should therefore be able to manage the difficult Kempton Park track comfortably. We think he is an outstanding each way opportunity and would advise so accordingly with odds of 14/1 with Ladbrokes
