The John Durkan Memorial Chase odds make very interesting reading as five runners only will go to post for this very important and highly competitive Grade One Chase over 2½ miles at Punchestown. The market is headed by the Paul Nolan trained 6 year old, Joncol a very highly regarded sort who has won at Grade Two level in Novice Chases.
Last seen at the end of October when beaten by Tranquil Sea, subsequent winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham last month, Joncol will have improved hugely for that run. He is a best price of 9/4 with Paddy Power but those odds will almost certainly change before they go to post.
Next best in the betting is the highly regarded Barker trained by Irish champion trainer, Willie Mullins. This 8 year old holds an entry for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and will have the imperious Ruby Walsh on board. Last seen in April where he was mightily impressive when winning the Grade One Swordlestown Cup Novice Chase by 15 lengths from 2009 Arkle winner Forpadydeplasterer. That form looks outstanding thus making him an excellent bet of 3/1 with Ladbrokes to follow that up with a win here.

It is good to see that Noel Meade's Aran Concerto continue his excellent career to date. This very talented 8 year old has had his problems but the way he came from his long layoff with victory last April in the Grade One Powers Gold Cup, where he held Barker by a short head, was very impressive. However he might need the run on this his seasonal reappearance for which he is currently a best price of 7/2 with Boylesports.
Winner of this race in 2007, In Compliance trained by Dessie Hughes makes his second appearance of this season after injury kept him off track for almost two years. The long lay-off did not seem to have done him any harm as he trotted up in a Listed Chase at Thurles last month, winning by 7 lengths from Chelsea Harbour. He certainly has the class to win the race but he will have to be back to his absolute best to hold off this top quality field. In Compliance can be backed at 4/1 with Ladbrokes
9/4 Joncol, 11/4 Barker, 3/1 Aran Concerto, 4/1 In Compliance, 12/1 Jy Vole
