Saturday's WBX.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle threw up more questions than answers in relation to who will win the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival next March. Ante-post favourite for next years race Binocular went off an odds on favourite at the weekend but disappointed finishing fifth. Not only that but the in-form Solwhit failed to capitalise, finishing a well beaten third. With all eyes on the front two in the betting, it was 25/1 shot Go Native who benefited from a steadily run race to sprint away in some style to win by two and a half lengths from Sublimity.

Go Native had disappointed on his last run out when beaten in a Grade 3 contest at Down Royal at the beginning of November but returned to the form that won him the Supreme Novices Hurdle at last years Festival. The Noel Meade trained 6yo has been clipped in to 12/1 by William Hill for the Champion Hurdle as a result of his win on Saturday and will now go to Kempton for the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day.
The betting for the Champion Hurdle has been shaken up as a result of the weekend's defeat for Binocular who now shares 11/2 favourtism for the race at Boylesports with Hurricane Fly, also a loser on his seasonal re-appearance. Solwhit has also lengthened in the betting out to 6/1 with bet365 and with only Zaynor of the four market leaders strengthening in the market, a solid 6/1 chance with Ladbrokes.

Nicky Henderson's Triumph Hurdle winner from last season Zaynar won the Coral Ascot Hurdle a fortnight ago and looks a danger, whilst punters should ignore last year's Champion Hurdler Punjabi at their peril, he's currently best priced 14/1 with Stan James for back to back wins in the race. Another runner who seems to be under the radar at the moment is last years runner-up Celestial Halo, a 7/1 chance with Victor Chandler. Paul Nicholls main hope in the race won the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton on his seasonal reappearance and loves Cheltenham.
