Denman Odds Shorten in Gold Cup Betting - Weekend Review

There was a distinct feeling of de-ja-vu at Newbury on Saturday as Denman defied top weight and ran away with the Hennessy Gold Cup for the second time, just like in 2007. There were market moves elsewhere for the Cheltenham Festival next March as the 2009 Ladbrokes World Hurdle winner Big Bucks strenghtened his claims for another win in the race with a breathless win in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday. The Paul Nicholls 6yo hacked up as 2/5 favourite in the race and is now as short as 5/4 to retain his title with sponsors Ladbrokes.

There were some market moves amongst the novice chasers at Newbury with Punchestowns now a 5/1 favourite for the RSA Chase with Ladbrokes following his win in the Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase on Friday. Michel Le Bon has also gained some support in the RSA Chase betting after winning the GPG Novices Chase on Saturday by a distance and is now as short as 14/1 with bet365 for the race next March. Riverside Theatre was the other market mover after the Newbury meeting and is now a general 16/1 in the Arkle Trophy betting following his win in the Rooney/Hall Beginners' Chase last Thursday.
