The Master Minded odds for the Queen Mother Champion Chase, were lengthened to a best price of 7/4 with Bet365 over the weekend following his poor seasonal reappearance in the inaugural Connaught Chase at Cheltenham.

Twice a winner of the Champion Chase, Master Minded is just about the highest rated horse in training and according to his trainer, Paul Nicholls he is the best horse he has ever trained. However despite the praise that has been heaped on him, he failed to live up to it in this race and was well beaten into third place by the David Pipe trained Well Chief, who was second behind Master Minded in the 2009 Champion Chase and who was only having his second run since April 2007.

To make matters worse, Mahogany Blaze ran on to deprive Master Minded of the runner up spot.

The three are all likely to go for next month's Tingle Creek at Sandown before any final decision is made on Cheltenham. Currently Well Chief can be backed for the Champion Chase at an attractive 6/1 with Ladbrokes while Mahogany Blaze, trained by the bang in form Nigel Twiston-Davies yard has had his Champion Chase odds trimmed to 33/1 also with Ladbrokes.
