The World Cup European Group play off draw was made today which drew the Rep of Ireland against France in what will be be a do or die two legged affair, in November. The full draw and betting is
Republic of Ireland v France - France 1/4 to qualify, Ireland 11/4 to qualify for World Cup with William Hill
Portugal v Bosnia - Portugal 1/5 to qualify, Bosnia 10/3 to qualify for World Cup with William Hill
Greece v Ukraine - Ukraine 4/6 to qaulify, Greece 11/10 to qualify for World Cup with William Hill
Russia v Slovenia - Russia 1/4 to qualify, Slovenia 11/4 to qualify for the World Cup with William Hill
The four highest FIFA ranked teams, France, Portugal, Russia and Greece were the the four seeded teams which meant that they would not be drawn to play against each other. The four non-seeded teams were of course Ukraine, Rep of Ireland, Bosnia and Slovenia, who will all no doubt will be underdogs. The matches will be played over two home and away legs on November 14th and 18th, with the four winning teams qualifying for the finals in June 2010 in South Africa.
On the exchanges it is France who are the favourites, with Portugal, Russia and Greece not far behind. The Bookmakers make Slovenia the outsiders at 12/5 to fail, while Ireland are currently 9/5. The draw has the promise of throwing up some great games, but for Irish fans, they no doubt would fancy their chances mostly against Greece, a team that on their day they could beat.

Ireland went through their Group undefeated and it is a sure bet that none of the seeded teams would have wanted to be drawn against them, particularly in front of a packed Croke Park in Dublin, where the Irish are a match for anyone.
In overall terms, it is France and Portugal who are the highest placed in the World Cup Outright win market. The Runners up from 2006, France are a best price of 25/1 to win with VC Bet, while Portugal can be backed at the same price with Paddy Power. Ireland are a 200/1 shot with Bet365
