The Northumberland Plate Tips for this week's big stayers handicap, sometimes referred to as the Pitman's Derby is the Michael Bell trained The Betchworth Kid. This has been this horse's main target this season and he comes into the race fresh but well tuned. Bell won this race in 2007 with Juniper Girl and is well aware what it takes to win a tough race like this. The Betchworth Kid is currently a 20/1 shot with Paddy Power which is great value in what looks to be a very open race.

It had been expected that trainer Mark Johnston may have run Record Breaker, who seemed to fit the profile of the winner of this race, but that now looks unlikely leaving the way clear for a big run from our tip.
