RSA Chase Odds Call It Close Between Top Two

The RSA Chase odds seem to suggest that the race is set up to be fought out between the top four horses in the betting and that might well prove to be the case. Favourite is the Willie Mullins trained Cooldine who's chances were clearly improved by the decision made by jockey, Ruby Walsh to ride him in preference to his English employer's What A Friend.

Cooldine has been prepared for this race slightly differently from the norm in that he has been hurdling for most part, but he took to fences like a dream in the PJ Moriarty Chase at Leopardstown recently where he beat several useful novice chasers including Arkle fancy, Forpadydaplasterer. The win confirmed that Mullins has an outstanding chaser in the making and he could well be the one to be on here. Favourites have won the last two renewals and Cooldine has odds of 5-1 with VC Bet to make it three.

Against him is the equally impressive, Paul Nicholls trained, What A Friend. The yard has kept the horse fresh this season but he has won both his starts, including a victory over another race fancy, Carruthers. It is interesting to note that Nicholls regards this horse as his best staying chasing novice.

Carruthers, who is third in the betting returned to winning ways at Ascot last month and looked very impressive in so doing. Although he has to reverse the form with What A Friend, the stable think he is capable and he might be a good eaxh way punt at 7-1 with Boylesports
