The Denman betting ahead of the Gold Cup at Cheltenham have continued to drift as the Festival draws closer. Last year's brilliant winner Denman will be hoping for a repeat of that success this year but injury and rusty form has left punters unsure on his chances. Denman on his top form showed last year that he is almost unbeatable and is a joy to watch. However, he has had a difficult time as he started this season with a heart problem and only had his first run since last year's Gold Cup in February in the Levy Board Chase. In that race at Kempton Denman was beaten 23 lengths by fellow Gold Cup contender Madison Du Berlais. That result has caused punters to leave Denman and he will certainly need to have improved since then to stand a chance against stable-mate and 2007 Gold Cup Winner Kauto Star. Denman's odds are expected to shorten closer to the race as punters rush to take the generous odds currently available of 7/1 with Ladbrokes.

It was an impressive performance but one that is difficult to gauge due to the rustiness or not of Denman. The Gold Cup is shaping up to be one of the most interesting for many years and while many have written off Denman we certainly would not rule a horse of his class out especially with attractive looking odds.
