The 2010 Hennessy Gold Cup Betting Preview and Odds

Our Hennessy Gold Cup tips for this weekend's big race are the Paul Nicholls trained What A Friend who has been specifically laid out for the race. Despite the great Denman being in the field, Nicholls has voiced his opinion in the media this week, confirming that he believes What A Friend is well weighted for this race and that the 6 year old is in great form at home. What A Friend is quoted at around the 6/1 mark but has a best price of 7/1 with Paddy Power odds that are being quickly snapped up.

it is obvious that Denman is the best horse in the race, but Nicholls has strongly suggested that he will need the run and that he would be happy for him to finish in the first five. His advice however is largely being ignored for some reason as Denman, despite carrying 12 lb more than any other in the field, remains the 4/1 favourite for the race also with Paddy Power.

Cappa Bleu trained by Evan Williams is another who has been heavily supported for the race and is our each way tip. The winner of the Foxhunters Challenge Chase Cup at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival, this 7 year old is a fantastic stayer with great speed and he is already being talked up as a future Gold Cup contender. He has come in from an original SP of 25/1 to a current best price of 10/1 with VC Bet.

Williams won this race in 2006 with and has strongly suggested that Cappa Bleu may be an even better Hennessy option. State Of Play also takes his chance in this race but his run is more an initial preparation race for the Aintree Grand National next april. Nonetheless he can be backed to repeat his 2006 success at 16/1 with Paddy Power.
