Bechers Chase Tips
Our Bechers Chase Tips for this weeks big steeplechase over the Grand National fences at Aintree is the Jimmy Mangan trained Himalayan Trail. Mangan of course has already scaled the heights of John Smith's Grand National glory when Monty's Pass won in 2003 and the County Cork trainer believes that a second Aintree success is on the cards with Himalayan Trail, who is among the 28 entries for this race.
The Bechers Chase is a three and a quarter mile contest, raced over the Grand National course and is regarded as a one of the major trials for Aintree's April spectacular. Most of the runners are also entered for the national and those who finish prominent here will be listed among the National favourites.
Himalayan Trail scored an impressive victory in the Midlands Grand National over at Uttoxeter in March, at that time he was trained by Sue Smith, but since then the lightly-raced nine-year-old was snapped up for £130,000 in the Doncaster sale ring in May and has moved over to Ireland, where he is flourishing.

His seasonal reappearance at the Cork National a couple of weeks ago pleased connections, despite the fact that he was pulled up with two fences to jump, he was top weight that day and was giving far too much away to the field, nonetheless he ran well for most part and will have come on leaps and bounds for the run. Mangan has said that the horse was bought purely for the Grand National and that this trial was a very important stepping stone and a race that he and the owner want to win.
Mr Pointment remains favourite for the race however at 5/1 but our tip should be backed at each way at a big price of around 20/1.
