The Alan Shearer Newcastle next manager odds shortened dramatically today, following former team mate Rob Lee's comments made to the Newcastle Fanzine, the Mag. Lee was unequivocal when he said that Shearer wanted the job provided the club was set up in the way that he wanted, whether that means now ir in the near future remains to be seen. Bookmakers have been quickto respond to the comments and have immediately installed the former Newcastle playing legend as 9/4 favourite to be appointed next permanent manager.
Shearer has been regularly linked with taking over the helm, even before Sam Allardyce took over, but he has seemed contented to stay in his role as BBC plaudit until seemingly now. It is also known that Kevin Keegan spoke with Shearer about joining his staff before Keegan resigned form the club in September, Shearer declined the Keegan offer, confirming that if he was to take over he would want to be the main man.

Shearer is a Newcastle legend of course, in his time at the club he scored 206 in only 404 appearances in his ten year playing career at the club. He had originally been brought to Newcastle by Keegan who at that time splashed out a record breaking fee for him, when he joined from Blackburn.
Shearer has never made any secret of the fact that he would like to get into management at some point and if so it would surely be Newcastle that he would opt for, given the opportunity. Reaction from the fans has been swift, with most saying that they would welcome his appointment, but most are alos making the point that the priority is to get owner Mike Ashley and his sidekick, Dennis Wise out of the club for good.
