Dewhurst Stakes Odds
The Dewhurst Stakes odds changed quite considerably over the last couple of days amid rumours that all is not well with pre-race favourite, Rip Van Winkle. Aiden O'Brien trainer of the speedy two year old has made no official comment at this stage but considerable money has come in for second favourite Ashram. He has had his odds cut from 7/1 to 5/1. Ashram, trained by John Hills impressively won the Tattersall Stakes over course and distance last time out and it is expected that his odds will shorten even more whether or not Rip Van Winkle runs.
The Group One two year old race is run over seven furlongs on the Rowley mile course at Newmarket and provides an excellent insight for trainers who have entries in the Guineas next May. It was won last year by New Approach, who went on to be second in the 2000 Guineas, behind Henrythenavigator, before going on to win the Epsom Derby in June. New Approach is of course trained by Jim Bolger, who also won the Dewhurst in 2006 with the classy Teofilo. Bolger has another classy candidate this year, Intense Focus., who was third in the Grand Criterium at Longchamp on Arc day. He has come out of the race in fine fettle and a big run is expected
