Henrythenavigator and Tamayuz clash in Ascot QE II Stakes Betting

The Group One QE II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday provides the stage for a mouth watering clash between two of Europe's top mile horses of the season in the form of Henrythenavigator and Tamayuz, who currently head the betting. Many bookmakers can't split the pair and go 6/4 each of two, with this price the best currently available about the Aidan O'Brien trained Henrythenavigator with Stan James and Ladbrokes. Other firms make the 2000 Guineas winner anything between a 5/4 and 11/8 chance. The best odds available on French Raider, Tamayuz, on Friday morning were 7/4 with Boylesports, however, it is expected that these two are likely to fight out favouritsm right up until the off at 4:15 on Saturday afternoon.

Henrythenavigator has been one of the candidates for horse of the year this season, winning four of his five Group One starts, with only the soft ground at Longchamp last time out putting an end to his stunning sequence of victories. The ground at Ascot on Saturday should be more to the liking of this Kingmambo Colt and he should be seen back at his best.

The biggest threat to Henrythenavigator is Tamayuz, who is trained by up and coming French trainer Freddie Head. This three year old son of Nayef has only one blemish to his name in an otherwise perfect six race record. His latest outing was in a Group One event at Deauville last month where he won in a very impressive manner, suggesting that their is more to offer. The only time he failed to win was when he was held up off the pace in the French Guinneas but with stablemate Racinger likely to set the pace at Ascot for him to cover, he has got a big chance of adding to his growing reputation.

This race looks almost certain to be a two horse battle, with perhaps Ravens Pass proving the next best alternative in the unlikely event that both the principles are not up to the task. Aidan O'Brien cannnot be discounted in any Group One event, especially given his near perfect record in such races this year, however, a young prentender to the throne maybe emerging in the form of Freddie Head and in Tamayuz, he has a horse that maybe has that little bit more than Henrythenavigator.
