Rip Van Winkle is a 7/4 shot to continue his two race unbeaten run, but there are others to consider here. One of those is Cityscape, who is currently the 4/1 second favourite. Trained by Roger Charlton, his connections are optimistic about his step up to Group company for the first time, particularly after his runaway win at Salisbury recently where he looked very impressive. Orizaba, winner of the Vintage Stakes is another who can challenge, Rip Van Winkle for the honours in this race. He is in great form and came out of his Goodwood jaunt in great shape, his connections are more than optimistic of a big run this weekend. Orizaba, who is trained by Mick Channon, had Lord Shanakill behind him at Goodwood and that horse has since gone and won the Mill Reef Stakes in what looked to be a quality field. Another who finished behind him at Goodwood, Shaweel has also franked the form by going on to win the Gimcrack Stakes. This represents good form and value for Orizaba, who is 8/1 for the race and he is clearly a big threat, particularly on ground that suits him.

Finally, the chances of the Jeremy Noseda trained San Frontieres should not be dismissed lightly either. Although odds on favourite, he only just managed to hold off Rafaan on his debut at Lingfield by a neck earlier this month, the manner of his win was not as impressive as other winners, but he held on in dogged style and Noseda is convinced that he will have come on hugely for the race. Noseda's belief is that the Royal Lodge is a race that suits his colt and is very optimistic about his chances. His odds of around 20/1 are well worth snapping up for each way backers.
