The Serena Williams US Open Womens Singles odds has shortened considerably after her hard fought victory over big sister Venus in the quarter final. The win leaves the way clear now for Serena to win her third crown and she looks to be in irresistible form. She plays the much improved Dinara Safina in the semi final, who overcame Flavia Pennetta of Italy to reach her first US Open semi final, but she will be lucky if she manages to take a set against Williams; especially in front of a vociferous and partisan US crowd at Flushing meadows. Nonetheless it will be a test and should provide plenty of entertainment. Assuming Williams wins then she will face either, the world number 2, Jelena Jankovic, or the Olympic Champion, Elena Dementieva in the final.

Of the two Dementieva is probably the slight favourite, she has continued her good form from the Olympics and has yet to drop a set in the tournament. Jankovic too has looked good, particularly as the tournament has progressed. She has improved in every game and has gone a long way to justifying her number 2 world ranking. However, if Serena continues in her current form then she will have no problem in winning. Serena is 4/11 to defeat Safina, who is 2/1. Dementieva is 4/6 to get to the final while Jankovic is 7/5.
