The Irish Champion Stakes odd for this week's Irish Champion Betting Group 1 at The Curragh has the Duke of Marmalade, yet again favourite to win his fifth Group One of the season and continue his remarkable run. Once again he is taken on by Epsom Derby winner, New Approach, its great credit to New Approach's trainer, Jim Bolger, to have yet another go against a horse who surely is the best in all Ireland and is rated number 1 in Europe. Bolger however is convinced that New Approach will come on leaps and bounds for his Juddmonte International run, two weeks ago, where he finished third, behind Duke of Marmalade and Phoenix Tower. Bolger is undeterred by that little fact claiming his horse will be mounting a serious challenge. The race certainly looks between the two, with the only probable horse who could upset the odds being another O'Brien horse, King of Rome.

The betting however is remarkably close between the two, the Duke of Marmalade being an even money bet, while New Approach is at 11/10. Bookies have reported considerable money for New Approach which suggests that Bolger's confidence in running him is justified. Despite this, the belief within Ballydoyle is so convincing, Johnny Murtagh, the jockey of Duke of Marmalade has gone on record saying that the the'Duke' is the best horse he has ever ridden and on that statement alone he is hard to oppose.
