Man City Premier League Title Odds cut following Takeover
The odds on Man City winning the Premier League have been shortened by all major bookmakers following the news that they have been taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group, the frontman of which, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, is reported to be worth ten times more than Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Prior to the news breaking on transfer deadline day, City were generally available at odds of 300/1 to win this season's title with some bookmakers offering as much as 400/1, including Stan James and VCBet. However, no sooner had the news broke before they were attempting to spendi their new found fortune in the transfer market. An audacious bid for Valencia's David Villa and an attempt to hijack arch rival's, Manchester United's, bid for Dimitar Berbatov from Spurs was enough to make the bookies sit up and take note. The odds on Mark Hughes's men winning the title were halved in a matter of hours, and when the news broke just before the midnight transfer deadline, that they had beaten Chelsea to the signature of Brazilian ace, Robinho, from Real Madrid many bookmakers suspended all Premier League betting markets.
Most bookmakers re-opened their Premiership betting on Tuesday morning with Man City now as short as 50/1 to win their first title since 1968. The best odds available are 80/1 with Ladbrokes.
Despite the shortening odds, it may be a bit too optimisitc to expect City to mount an assault on the top spot this season, however, you can fully expect plenty of tenners to be laid out in and around the Manchester area in the coming weeks. A more realistic bet in the short term maybe for Dr Sulaiman's new purchase to break in to the top four and secure a place in the Champions League, something he has reportedly earmaked winnign within three years. Bet365 are offering best odds of 13/2 that they can make that step up into the Premier League's elite quartette, a price that had been cut from 25/1 at the start of business on Monday.
